Panash Steel Orchestra UK

Established 1983

Welcome to our Homepage!!

Panash is a well known name since the 1980's.
We appreciate your following and hope to give you more reasons to follow us in the coming years!!

Panash Steel Orchestra UK,  was formed in 1983 by David Griffiths at Mountview High School, in the London borough of Harrow. The School closed, but their successful Steelband continued in another venue until 1989.

Our current Leader/Musical Director, Jay Butcher, took over the Panash name in 1990, whilst being the Steel Pan Tutor at Rook's Heath High School (Now College), also in Harrow.

In this line-up, the band toured extensively around continental Europe, and inspired the formation of a number of Steel Band's (Whilst undertaking workshops), still operating now!

Panash Harrow continued until 1995, when it was decided to fold the band, due to members leaving for university, and Jay moving home to South London. The Pans were passed onto 'Hammered Steel', in Cape Cornwall, where they continue.

Jay spent 12 years as the Arranger for the Comets Steel Orchestra, and reformed Panash in 2007, after achieving 3rd place, at the Notting Hill Carnival, "Best Steelband on the Road 2007", with the Comets Youth Steel Orchestra .

Merton Council funded the resurrection of Panash, based at William Morris Primary School from 2007-2014. Panash lost our panyard at William Morris, due to school expansion and it was decided to relocate the group to Crystal Palace in 2014.

Since being based at All Saint's CofE Primary School, we have developed our community from Year 2 to pensioners! The School have been paramount in supporting Panash, and despite the change of leadership at All Saint's, Panash has been able to flourish!

In May 2016, Panash entered 2 groups into the Croydon Performing Arts Festival. The adjudicators were so impressed with our youth band and community band, that they awarded joint 1st place to both groups!

After a 3 year absence, we are delighted to be returning to Merton in partnership with Merton Council, Merton Music Foundation and Stanford Primary School!!

We are a 2- Centre  (currently) Steel Orchestra based in Crystal Palace and Norbury, South London and draw members from 6 surrounding London Boroughs, and as far afield as Medway, Kent.

Panash are available for corporate events, weddings, anniversaries, community events and private functions.

Panash Steel Orchestra UK, transcends Social, Racial, Class and Political Values, to create an atmosphere of fun and learning for ALL!!!
